miMakkus clowns: providing emotion-oriented care for people with severe intellectual disabilities
The miMakkus Foundation has developed an approach to create genuine connections with people with severe intellectual disabilities and/or severe dementia. This approach is a form of emotion-oriented care using clowning. Research shows that there is a high quality of interaction between miMakkus clowns and people with intellectual disabilities and/ or severe dementia, ensuring they feel connected, autonomous, and competent.
