Support for people with mild intellectual disabilities: A social network approach
This PhD research explored the social networks of people with mild intellectual disabilities. Having a strong and supportive social network is crucial for the social inclusion and quality of life of a person with a mild intellectual disability. If an individual’s network does not provide sufficient support, professionals can play an important role in strengthening and extending the individual’s network. Therefore, this research focused not only on the characteristics of social networks, but also on interventions to strengthen or extend these networks.
